Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry Top Non-Gendered VMA Nominations

MTV is continuing its legacy of hosting the most progressive award shows around. The music channel released its nominees for the 2017 Video Music Awards and ditched all of the gendered categories to combine Best Male and Female Video into Artist of the Year.

To no one's surprise, Kendrick Lamar tops the nomination list after nabbing a whopping eight nods for "HUMBLE." Katy Perry follows with five nominations for "Chained to the Rhythm." The Video of the Summer category will be announced at a later date, but fans can start voting for eight categories including Best New Artist, Video of the Year and Artist of the Year here.
