The beginnings of the legendary Texas Rangers are portrayed in a gritty, realistic manner here as Montgomery, the fastest gun in the West, leads his men in pursuit of Bishop's notorious Sam Bass gang. Montgomery has been given the choice of finishing out a life prison term or taking on
this mission. He succeeds in catching Bishop, and along the way fills the Sundance Kid (MacDonald) with holes, since the Kid was the one responsible for his prison stint in the first place.
