Give your brain a break with some of summer's most mindless entertainment

America's Got Talent (NBC)

While we'd love to say we only watch this show to see people embarrass themselves, we almost always get caught up in those moments when an unassuming contestant completely blows us away. But this year, we have another reason to watch: Howard Stern! Will he be a good judge? Who cares! We just want him to spar with his fellow judges (and the contestants).

Bachelor Pad (ABC)

Cycle 3 of the spin-off is back, but this time, previous Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants will compete against newbies for the grand prize. Last season's drama included two sets of ex-fiancés involved in new romances. How will the show top that? We don't know, but we'll be glued to our TVs to find out.

The Bachelorette (ABC)

Who doesn't love watching a gorgeous and adorable 26-year-old Southern woman choose between 25 very eager men? But this season, the ABC series will tug at the heartstrings as Bachelorette Emily looks for both a husband and a father to her 6-year-old daughter. But don't forget about the hot tub!

Big Brother (CBS)

Even after 13 seasons, we still can't get enough of this Survivor-meets-The Real World show. Contestants live in a camera-rigged house where they backstab, yell at and sleep with fellow competitors until one lucky player walks away with $500,000. The premise rarely changes, but it always delivers grade-A trashy drama.

Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition (ABC)

Rather than spend our summer getting in shape, we prefer to make ice cream cones and watch TV. But this show might just have what it takes to get us off our couches and into the gym. Although similar to The Biggest Loser, we prefer this show's instant gratification: Each episode follows one person's entire journey from start to finish.

The Glee Project (Oxygen)

Even the most die-hard fans are probably Glee-d out after graduation. Fortunately it's much less emotionally draining to enjoy this light and fun reality series that is equal parts mushy after-school special and song-and-dance boot camp. Best of all, The Glee Project highlights all the things we love about Glee — including a diverse cast, which this summer includes a contestant in a wheelchair. Last year, Ryan Murphy gave four of the final Glee Project contestants recurring roles. Only a Lima Loser would miss out on this chance to get a sneak peek at who's coming your way next fall.

Hell's Kitchen (Fox)

We tune in for an equal serving of tirades and tears on this cooking competition show that's dripping with drama. Two teams of chefs compete against each other to complete a dinner service, and it's up to Gordon Ramsay (and the throbbing vein in his forehead) to determine which chef ultimately makes him scream the least and deserves to work in his restaurant. Also, we can't help tuning in to see what new ways someone will find to mess up the risotto!

Keeping Up with the Kardashians (E!)

The Kardashians have become a pop culture phenomenon whether we like to admit it or not, and their reality show is no different. The seventh season promises all the drama we've come to expect from them and then some. Just think: paternity tests, pranks on Kris Jenner, and even Kim's alleged romance with rapper Kanye West. Are they insufferable/annoying/melodramatic? Yes. Does that mean we'll ever stop watching? No.

Love in the Wild (NBC)

Because reality dating shows have such a great track record, this show is back to give would-be couples actual troubles. We're talking about crocodiles, waterfalls and bat guano. What more can 20 singles want to create that special, lasting bond? Oh yes, the fear of nationwide, televised rejection. This season, set in the Dominican Republic, will be hosted by Jenny McCarthy. Anyone else hoping for a Singled Out reference or two?

MasterChef (Fox)

It's all about people like us in this reality cooking competition show that offers amateur chefs the chance to show off their culinary skills. It's heartwarming, it's inspiring, and it's always a hoot to watch Joe Bastianich stare into the middle distance with that inscrutable look in his eye after tasting a dish.

Pregnant in Heels (Bravo)

Maternity concierge Rosie Pope has a sometimes-patronizing, always-entertaining approach to guiding clueless couples through their pregnancies. While it's hard to sympathize with ostentatious expectant moms who don't know the first thing about raising a kid, the show does makes us feel better about our own abilities as parents, human beings, etc.

The Real Housewives of New York City (Bravo)

Last season's endless catfighting took the "pleasure" out of this "guilty pleasure." But after the exit of mean girls Jill Zarin and Alex McCord (as well as Kelly Bensimon and new girl Cindy Barshop), we hope this series will go back to its early days of ridiculous tennis rivalries and lavish fashion show parties. One thing we hope does remain: plenty of pinot grigio for crazy-eyed Ramona.

The Real L Word (Showtime)

The lady-lovers of Los Angeles return for a third round, but this time, the show will also introduce new faces on the East Coast in order to finally prove which group of lesbians parties hardest. And there's also a lot more sex.

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox)

The fact that we don't think we can dance makes watching people who can that much more appealing. Sadly, SYTYCD will only air on one night this season. On the bright side, there will be two winners, one male and one female.
