After roles in commercials and music videos in the late 1980s, Baker appeared on such Australian TV shows as E Street, Home and Away and Heartbreak High (pictured). On Heartbreak, Baker portrayed a teacher at Hartley High, a tough high school in a multiracial area of Sydney, for seven episodes.

After Baker moved to America, he quickly landed a small role in Curtis Hanson's adaptation of James Ellroy's novel. He was Matt Reynolds, a small-time movie star whose murder is investigated by Kevin Spacey's Sgt. Jack Vincennes.

This period drama starred Hilary Swank as Jeanne de Saint-Rémy de Valois, who is determined to reclaim her royal title and the home taken from her family when she was orphaned at an early age a child. Baker played well-connected gigolo Rétaux de Villette, with whom Swank's character connects to raise enough money to buy back the property.

Baker starred in this CBS drama for three seasons as Nick Fallin, a corporate lawyer who's sentenced to 1,500 hours of community service in Pittsburgh after a drug conviction.

In this sequel to the hit horror film, Baker played newspaper editor Max Rourke, who assigns Namoi Watts' Rachel Keller to investigate a teen's death.
