Halle Berry shocked us all when she announced in April that, at 46, she's expecting her second child. But she's not the only star who's had kids after 40. In fact, the Oscar winner gave birth to her first child, daughter Nahla, when she was 41 in March 2008. Check out other stars who became parents later in life.

The actress, who suffered from post-partum depression after having her first daughter, Rowan, gave birth to her second daughter, Grier, at 41 in April 2006. "This was nothing like the first one," Shields, who's married to producer Chris Henchy, told People afterward. "I was like, 'You know what? I think I'm OK now.'"

The actress and her estranged fourth husband James Keach had two failed in vitro pregnancies before an attempt took. Seymour, who had two children in her 30s, delivered twin boys Johnny and Kristopher (named after friends Johnny Cash and Christopher Reeve) at 44 in November 1995 six weeks premature. She detailed the pregnancy in her 2002 book Two at a Time: Having Twins: The Journey Through Pregnancy and Birth.

In November 2010, 22 months after her and husband John Travolta's 16-year-old son Jett died from a seizure, Preston gave birth to son Benjamin at 48. (The couple also has a daughter, Ella.) "We had been trying for quite a few years, and then of course there was a time when we weren't, and then we started trying again," Preston told Health. "When I found out I was pregnant, I was floored. I'd snuck out of bed and then came back and woke Johnny up in bed. We both started crying. It was wonderful."

After suffering a miscarriage, Carey underwent fertility treatments. She gave birth to twins, daughter Monroe and son Moroccan, at 42 in April 2011 on her three-year wedding anniversary with Nick Cannon. The singer had a difficult pregnancy, suffering from high blood pressure, preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. " I couldn't go even to the loo by myself," she told 20/20. "It was just like, 'What are we doing? Are we going to the hospital?' No, I'm gonna stick it out, I'm gonna keep taking this medicine to keep these babies in... I made it to 35 weeks and then the doctor said it wasn't safe anymore."

In 2011, she and husband Peter Hermann adopted two children, Amaya and Andrew, six months apart after paperwork processing for Andrew went faster than expected. "We never in a million years thought it would happen this quickly, but something inside of us knew that this was right, and we said, 'Yes, yes, yes!'" she told People.

Sorvino developed placenta previa and a blood clot, and she was hospitalized for nine weeks during the pregnancy. "He is my miracle baby," she told People afterward. "With everything that threatened this pregnancy and both of our lives, he came out of it completely unscathed: perfectly healthy, beautiful and wonderful!" At 44, Sorvino welcomed daughter Lucia in May 2012 — a pregnancy she kept under wraps until the birth announcement.

The '80s teen icon welcomed twins Roman and Adele in July 2009 at 41. After giving birth to her first child, Mathilda, with husband Panio Gianopoulos in 2003, Ringwald had surgery to remove fibroids. "That made it easier to get pregnant again," she told People. "There were some other issues too. But I was so, so lucky to be 41 and to be so healthy during this pregnancy."

The Oscar winner struggled with fertility issues before giving birth to daughter Sunday Rose at 41 in July 2008. "I've had an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriages and I've had fertility treatments. I've done all the stuff you can possibly do to try to get pregnant," Kidman, who adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, told Australia's Who magazine. "So the way it just happened with Sunday was like, 'What?' The percentages were so low. It is the miracle in my life." Kidman and husband Keith Urban welcomed a second daughter, Faith Margaret, in December 2010 via gestational surrogate.

The HLN host and her husband David Linch welcomed twins Lucy and John two months early in November 2007, less than two weeks after Grace's 48th birthday. The babies were born via C-section after Grace suffered a pulmonary edema and developed fluid in her lungs. Grace later revealed that she and Lucy nearly died. "When Lucy and I almost died in childbirth, I promise you I thank God every day for this," Grace told People in 2012. "I just can't believe this miracle in my life."

"I think if you are young and you have children, you still have so much to prove," she told Marie Claire. "When you have children later in life, you lose a bit of that urge for working."

"I laid it all out for [my gynecologist], and the main thing I took away from our conversation was the kind of simple observation that only an impartial third party can provide: 'Either way, everything will be fine,'" Fey, who's married to composer Jeff Richmond, wrote. In August 2011, four months after Bossypants came out, their daughter Alice got a sibling: At 41, Fey gave birth to daughter Penelope.

In July 2012 at age 42, Thurman had her third child, the first with fiancé Arpad Busson, Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence — or Luna for short. Her daughter Maya came up with the idea for the lengthy moniker. "[Maya] came up with the best excuse, [which] was that I probably wouldn't get to have any more children, so I just put every name I liked into [this one]," Thurman said.
