Pro: Finneran would bring a whole new, more serious energy to Doctor Who. And after dozens of seasons, the show can always use a little shakeup. Con: Finneran might be too recognizable (and despised) for her role as the contemptible maid O'Brien on Downton.

Pro: Other than his role on Primeval, Murray is fairly unknown, making him a perfect blank slate to create a new Doctor. Con: Murray might be a little too unknown to compete with the semi-big names being thrown about.

Pro: Tennant might just have been the most beloved Doctor of all time and is already coming back for the 50th anniversary special. Who says he couldn't stick around? Con: Been there, done that! Tennant already had his time in the TARDIS, and the series can always use fresh blood.

Pro: The Doctor keeps getting younger, but don't forget: The Time Lord is supposed to be more than 1,000 years old. And just because Roth, 52, is older than recent Doctors, that doesn't mean he can't keep up with the energetic precedent Smith and Tennant set. Con: Roth has four projects coming out in the next two years, so it doesn't look like the Lie to Me star is available.

Pro: Maslany made Orphan Black one of this season's must-watch new shows, thanks to her impressive turn as multiple characters (for which she won a Critics' Choice Award, we might add). Con: She isn't British! As good as Maslany's accents are, the Doctor is an iconic British character and we doubt that will ever change.

Pro: Doctor Who has a long history of ginger jokes, so why not shake things up and turn the Doctor into one? Con: Grint is a little young and probably way too famous to ever be offered the role. And it'd be pretty hard to get past the fact that the Doctor is actually Ronald Weasley.

Pro: While we'll always love the Doctor for his quirks (fish fingers and custard, anyone?), Armitage would bring a refreshing elegance to the role. Con: Armitage has done a lot of TV in the past, but he's implied that he's getting more frustrated with the medium. His commitment to Peter Jackson's epic Hobbit saga doesn't bode well for his future in the TARDIS either.

Pro: It's about time we get a Time Lady, don't you think? And who better to pave the way than Tena, who showed she's just as tough as the boys as Osha on Game of Thrones and just as weird as Matt Smith as Tonks in Harry Potter. Con: Unlike seemingly every other character on the series, Osha has somehow survived three seasons of Game of Thrones. But now that Tena's character took off with Rickon, she might have some free time coming up.

Pro: The BBC would be keeping it in the Who family if they cast Fox, who's married to Billie Piper. Con: He might not have the oddball quality for which the Doctor has become known.

Pro: The Battlestar alum already has a lot of sci-fi cred. And those eyes! Don't forget those eyes. Con: Bamber has previously expressed hesitation about potentially pursing the iconic role. He also seems far more interested in American television in recent years.

Pro: No matter what changes Smash made, the NBC musical would never live up to Davenport's talents. The guy can do it all! Plus: He's worked with executive producer Steven Moffat in the past and has the prerequisite crazy hair every Doctor needs. Con: Davenport has already been cast in the British drama Breathless. But don't worry — no one will judge if you pray for its untimely cancellation, thus freeing Davenport up for Doctor Who.

Pro: Elba would be a huge change of tone from Smith's Doctor. The Wire alum is definitely not someone you want to mess with. Elba's smooth, mature acting style would help show why the Doctor's one of the most feared creatures in the galaxy. And it's about time we get a black Doctor! Con: After five decades, Doctor Who has yet to break tradition and cast anyone other than a white male as the notorious Time Lord. And can you really imagine Stringer Bell running from a few Daleks?

Pro: We already know Laurie can kill it as an eccentric doctor (albeit of a very different variety). Plus: Fans of his work with Stephen Fry know Laurie has enough comedy chops to pull off the Doctor's quirkier side. Con: Doctor Who has never been one to cast big names, and every Yank is very familiar with Laurie after House.

Pro: He can be charming, menacing and sexy all at once. What's not to love about Anders? Con: Don't be fooled by his accent on Alias and Heroes! Anders is actually American, which makes his casting as the Doctor highly improbable.

Pro: He's already a fan-favorite pick to play the Twelfth Doctor based on his role as the lovable, but pompous Hal on Being Human. Con: Since Being Human has been canceled, there really doesn't seem to be anything standing in Molony's way, unless he doesn't want the media attention.

Pro: The Primeval star has already played geeky and badass characters before. Though it'd be hard to imagine his female companion not falling head-over-heels for Potts' sexy self — and we've already gone down that road recently. Con: We really can't think of any!
