Hawkins has a couple of new faces in town
Where you've seen him before: Astin starred as Mikey Walsh in the '80s classic/Stranger Things touchstone The Goonies. He was the ultimate underdog as the title character in Rudy and was the most loyal of hobbits, Samwise Gamgee, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Who he plays: Bob Newby, a former nerdy high school classmate of Joyce's (Winona Ryder) who starts dating her, much to Hopper's (David Harbour) chagrin. He manages the local Hawkins RadioShack.
Where you've seen him before: The comedy icon starred on Mad About You for seven years and appeared in such films as Aliens, Diner and the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies.
Who he plays: Dr. Owens, a high-ranking official in the Department of Energy who's tasked with cleaning up Dr. Brenner's (Matthew Modine) mess from last year. So yeah, he's (probably) the new baddie.
Where you've seen her before: Sink played Anna Friel's daughter in the short-lived NBC series American Odyssey. She most recently co-starred in the film adaptation of The Glass Castle.
Who she plays: Max, a new kid in town who befriends the gang after moving from California. She's a tomboy who prefers skateboarding to bicycling and has a difficult relationship with her stepbrother Billy.
Where you've seen him before: The Aussie native played the Red Power Ranger in the 2017 film reboot.
Who he plays: Billy, Max's older stepbrother who moves to town from California. A wild-card bad boy, he has a strained relationship with Max, excels at drinking games and drives a black Camaro.
Where you've seen her before: The Danish actress appeared on the web series The Desert.
Who she plays: Roman, an emotionally damaged young woman who suffered great loss as a child and has been out for revenge since. She doesn't live in Hawkins but is mysteriously connected to the events at the lab. Hmm, is her name adapted from Roman numerals?
Where you've seen him before: The Broadway star was Joe DiMaggio in Smash's Bombshell and country superstar Luke Wheeler on Nashville.
Who he plays: Neil Mayfield, the patriarch of a new family who just moved to town from California, so yeah, he's likely Max and Billy's dad.
Where you've seen him before: The comedian wrote and starred in a handful of Dinner-themed comedy specials on Adult Swim. He's starred on Eaglehart, Go On, Another Period, Fleabag and most recently, the Twin Peaks revival.
Who he plays: Murray Bauman, a disgraced journalist-turned-conspiracy theorist who's looking into a cold case in Hawkins. Could it be that loss Roman endured?
