Episode Detail: Der Rosenkavalier - The Metropolitan Opera Presents

Soprano Kiri Te Kanawa and mezzo-soprano Tatiana Troyanos star in a 1982 Met staging of “Der Rosenkavalier” (The Knight of the Rose), Richard Strauss's 1911 lyric comedy about the heartaches and follies (and gender confusion) of aristocratic lovers in 1740s Vienna. Luciano Pavarotti has a small role as an Italian tenor whose aria is cut short. Sung in German (with English subtitles). Baron Ochs: bass Kurt Moll. Sophie: soprano Judith Blegen. Faninal: baritone Derek Hammond-Stroud.
