Episode Detail: Dateline NBC - Dateline NBC
Tom Brokaw reports on two University of Michigan affirmative-action admissions cases, on which the Supreme Court is expected to rule. The hour “isn't a legal brief as much as it is a political and cultural discussion,” says Brokaw, who interviews lawyers on both sides; University president Mary Sue Coleman; plaintiff Jennifer Gratz, who applied to Michigan in 1995 with a 3.8 high-school GPA and was rejected; and eight 1973 and '74 black Michigan grads, all of them successful, who discuss what affirmative action has meant for them.
