Carol Burnett was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, the country's top humor honor, over the weekend.
"This is very encouraging," Burnett said in her acceptance speech, The Associated Press reports. "It was a long time in coming, but I understand because there are so many people funnier than I am, especially here in Washington. With any luck, they'll soon get voted out, and I'll still have the Mark Twain prize."read more
Angelina Jolie will receive an honorary Academy Award for her humanitarian work, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday. In addition to Jolie, who won Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted in 2000, Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi will also receive honorary awards.
"The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement.
