For six seasons, anonymous blogger Gossip Girl has been able to uncover pretty much any secret and sordid scandal about S, B, Lonely Boy and the rest of the Upper East Side. The CW has ordered five new series, including the hotly anticipated Sex and the City prequel and the Green Arrow origins story, TVGuide.com has confirmed.
Based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, The Carrie Diaries features a younger Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) as she comes of age in the '80s, asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. Bushnell will executive-produce alongside Gossip Girl duo Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein and Sex and the City writer Amy Harris. Stefania Owen, Austin Butler, Matt Letscher, Brendan Dooling, Freema Agyeman, Katie Findlay, Chloe Bridges and Ellen Wong will also star.
To quote adult Carrie Bradshaw, "dreams change, trends come and go, but friendships never go out of style."
And that is just what The CW is counting on with their planned adaptation of Candace Bushnell's Sex and the City prequel novel, The Carrie Diaries. Centered on teen Bradshaw's life as a fashion-forward high-school student in the '80s surrounded by some equally fab friends, the in-production pilot from Gossip Girl wonder twins Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage stars AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer), who has some pretty big Manolos to fill as a version of Carrie who's not even legal to sip Cosmos.
