Richard Chamberlain Fast Facts:
  • Served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Korea.
  • A teen idol in the '60s thanks to the series Dr. Kildare, he had a career resurgence as "King of the Miniseries" over the next two decades, with classics such as Centennial (1978), Shogun (1980) and The Thorn Birds (1983).
  • In 1966 he starred in a musical adaptation of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's opposite Mary Tyler Moore on Broadway, but the show closed after four preview performances and never officially opened; made his real Broadway debut 10 years later in a revival of Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana.
  • Published his autobiography, Shattered Love: A Memoir, in 2003.
  • Received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000.
