LaKisha Kisses Simon and Says: "I'd Do It Again!"

LaKisha Jones says that starting out so strongly on American Idol and being dubbed an early favorite proved to be a difficult cross to bear. Coming off that roof-raising first Hollywood performance, "Everybody wanted that 'And I'm Telling You' moment every week, but when you're singing different genres every week, those styles don’t necessarily have that 'big song,'" she told TVGuide.com during a Thursday conference call. As such, she said, "I went out there every week and gave it my all."And while she may not have earned America's vote, LaKisha told us that after Wednesday's results show, she got the thumbs-up from the one who matters most: her 4-year-old daughter. "Oh, my gosh... I was crying last night and she wiped my face and said, 'Mommy, I'm not mad,' which I thought was really cute. It was as if she was telling me, 'I'm proud of you, I'm not mad' — and that works for me."What else worked for her? That surprise peck from mean ol' Simon Cowell himself. "He is a good... read more

May 9, 2007: "And Then There Were Three..."

(Crazy, I know!) So, I’ve got the goods for you tonight earlier rather than later. See, I’ve got a gig to get to, so on with the show. After sitting through an hour of just about nothing — seriously, we’re winding down here and there’s only so much filler a girl can take — here’s all you really need to know. (Besides, if you watched the show, you really don’t want me to recap all that. And if you didn’t watch the show, you’ll thank me for not having to live through every stretched-out moment.)Barry Gibb sang live; his voice was as falsetto-y as ever. Pink sang, though not live, and she was pretty good. She’s grown on me since I saw her last year at the TV Guide Emmy party. She pretty much brought the house down there, and I had only really known... read more
