The son of actors Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland, Kiefer became a Hollywood heartthrob in the '80s with flashy roles in a number of hip flicks such as
The Lost Boys,
Young Guns and
Flatliners, during which he struck up a very public romance with costar Julia Roberts, who more-or-less dumped him at the altar. After a brief hiatus from acting, Sutherland returned to the biz, taking on a variety of roles — villains and heroes, leads and character parts. His star returned to its former brightness as the star and producer of
24,
a taut action series in which he managed to save the world while continuing to look sexy. In 2006, he won two Emmys for his work on the show: one for Outstanding Lead Actor and one as producer of Outstanding Drama Series.
