Midseason Review: Red Widow, Vikings, The Bible

It's not much of a spoiler alert to point out that the title character of ABC's Red Widow winds up in (sexy) mourning by the half-hour mark of Sunday's dreary two-hour premiere (9/8c). It's even less of a surprise, given the nature of this most dismal network midseason in recent memory, that these widow's weeds are fashioned from less than sturdy dramatic fabric.

Weeds being among the shows that dealt with this sort of subject with more imaginative verve. The subject: murderous drug intrigue cloaked in...read more

History Sets Sail With the New Series Vikings

A Viking raider caps off a growled command at his men by driving his ax into the ground. Hard. Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) is as strong as the steel blade — and just as lethal. He's a Norse legend brought to life in Vikings, History's first scripted series. "Ragnar is very ambitious," says Fimmel on set in Ireland, near the famous Powerscourt waterfall. "He starts out as a farmer, but it's not enough for him. He seeks adventure, knowledge and fame."

And to get it, he's gonna need a better boat. Ragnar secretly commissions the creation of a lighter, faster version of...read more

Fall 2007: Parker Posey Is AS-P's New Lorelai

Oh, if this isn't a match made in TV heaven, I don't know what is: Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has tapped fast-talking Parker Posey to star in her Fox pilot The Return of Jezebel James. Per the Hollywood Reporter, the indie darling will play an infertile book editor who asks her estranged kid sister to have her baby. "I can't believe it's happening," AS-P said of landing the picky actress. "The character runs the gamut of emotions from laughing to flipping out to breaking your heart in 22 minutes, and only one in a zillion people has enough skill and charm to pull that off. Parker Posey is that person." I couldn't agree more. In other pilot-casting news: • Scream king Matthew Lillard has joined NBC's Area 52, a comedy about G-men babysitting an alien.• Anthony Anderson will topline Fox's K-Ville drama about cops in post-Katrina New Orleans.• Katheryn Winnick (House's recent rape victim) has been added to Philadelphia General, a Fox drama revolving arou... read more
