The fourth season opens with Finch, Reese, Shaw and Root adapting to the new identities created to protect them from Samaritan. Meanwhile, the Machine continues to send out numbers, potentially putting the entire group in danger of detection.
Finch's resolve to avoid dealing with new numbers is tested when Reese reveals that the latest person of interest is a brilliant college student involved in a dangerous scavenger hunt, but taking action may put Finch at risk of detection by Samaritan.
A young prosecutor becomes a person of interest in the opener of the series following a presumed-dead ex-CIA agent (Jim Caviezel) and a billionaire software genius (Michael Emerson) who try to stop crimes before they happen.
Reese recruits Zoe Morgan, Carter and Shaw to help him keep tabs on a chameleon playboy whose number has come up. Elsewhere, Root is hunted by a dangerous enemy and turns to the Machine for help escaping from her psych ward.
Finch receives 38 numbers at once, which turn out to be connected to a mysterious person who is instigating a major conflict between HR and the Russian mob. Meanwhile, Carter's past with her son's father is revealed through a series of flashbacks.

A talented political pollster's number comes up, and when his normally accurate predictions start going wrong at the same time, Finch suspects a connection. Elsewhere, Capt. Moreno gives Reese an order that sidelines his work.
