Gator McKlusky (Burt Reynolds) has been convicted of running moonshine whiskey. He is offered a chance of release--if he will serve as an informer and help catch his one-time cohorts. Gator accepts, but only to get out of jail. He has another motive…he believes that the crooked sheriff (Ned Beatty) murdered his younger brother, a civil rights activist. With the help of fellow "informant" (Matt Clark) and a daredevil driver (Bo Hopkins), a few fights and some astonishing stunt-driving chases, Gator will eventually prove his case against the sheriff. A bonus: Gator will also acquire the daredevil driver's beautiful girlfriend (Jennifer Billingsley). With Louise Latham, Diane Ladd and a young Laura Dern (Diane lad's real-life daughter) in her film debut. Joseph Sargent directed with his usual skill and zest.
Broadway Joe in his first starring role as a motorcyclist who first joins a motorcycle gang, but tangles with the biker gang while trying (not very hard) to fight off Ann-Margret's advances. He wins a motorcross event and they kidnap her. He races the leader to win her freedom.
A suspenseful shocker, "Lady In a Cage" tells of ten terrifying hours in the life of a beautiful widow (Olivia de Havilland) who is accidentally trapped in her home elevator during a power failure. Her well-oriented world is destroyed as the elevator, nine feet from the floor, becomes a torture chamber--a cage. Unable to escape, her situation becomes desperate when the emergency alarm attracts a drunken derelict and his boozy prostitute friend, both bent on robbery. James Caan (The Godfather) projects his raw power as one of the hoodlums who embarks on an orgy of wanton vandalism and sadistic brutality that ends in murder.
