  • American film debut was 1939's Intermezzo with Leslie Howard, a remake of the 1936 Swedish-language version, in which she also starred.
  • Was fluent in five languages (Swedish, German, French, English and Italian).
  • Did not think her most famous film, Casablanca (1942), was anything special.
  • Her wholesome, almost saintly image was destroyed and her career faltered after she left her husband, dentist Petter Lindstrom, in 1949 for Italian film director Roberto Rossellini, whom she married in 1950.
