Love on the Set of Two and a Half Men

Melanie Lynskey may have driven off the set of Two and a Half Men, but when the sitcom celebrates its 100th episode, she'll be back as Charlie’s stalker Rose, and apparently for more than a pit stop. At the CBS Monday Night Lineup Premiere Party on Sept. 19, Men costar Marin Hinkle (who plays Judith Harper) revealed that in the milestone episode, Charlie will realize his true passion for his stalker. "He goes to seek her out to tell her how he feels about her, and there’s a surprise to how she handles it. I’m sure she will be back for many episodes. The way they left it had a wonderful dot-dot-dot."Lynskey is not the only guest star appearing on the comedy in its first six episodes. Janeane Garofalo appears as one of Alan's romantic mistakes, Ming Wen will be one of Charlie’s objects of affection, and much to Holland Taylor’s delight, Robert Wagner will come back to romance her character, Evelyn Harper. "I’ve had Martin Sheen and Robert Wagner as my lo... read full article

Can you please explain to me ...

Question: Can you please explain to me why Two and a Half Men garnered as many Emmy nods as it did? I tried watching an episode and couldn't even make it through the full 30 minutes! I mean no offense to Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer, Holland Taylor or Conchata Ferrell, but are we supposed to believe that all four turned in Emmy-worthy performances? I can see why the show has viewers (it's an easy, no-thinking-required program), but all the Emmy attention has me totally perplexed. The show is like macaroni and cheese: comforting and dependable, but you don't give it a gold ribbon. I guess I'm lashing out because Gilmore Girls was consistently ignored, while shows I see as dreck receive accolades. So, Matt, if you could please enlighten me about this issue, I'd really appreciate it — it's just not healthy to be this angry about a TV show. Answer: This one doesn't bother me so much. I think there should be room on the list for at least one traditionally produced comedy (as in: filmed ... read more

May 14, 2007: Who's Your Daddy?

Like two little kids in a candy store, Alan and Charlie could not be more giddy over the idea of Teddy (Robert Wagner), becoming their new daddy. Only it wasn't the lure of candy that had these two giggling with excitement. It was more about the "toys" they would get to play with, such as a limo, a private plane, a penthouse suite and ringside tickets to a boxing match in Vegas. However, the trip to Sin City did serve a larger purpose. Teddy had plans of popping the question to Evelyn, and he wanted Charlie and Alan's blessing to move forward with the proposal. Somewhere between the gelato and the prostitutes, the guys managed to give him their enthusiastic approval. Should they have been at all concerned that Teddy lied to their mother about their little outing, branding it as a business trip? Nah, if anything, I think that indiscretion only scored Teddy more points with them. Besides, they had a wedding to plan now!The funniest and most shocking point of the night came when Cha... read more

Holland Taylor: From Bosom Buddies to Her Naughty Men

If you were ever a fan of Bosom Buddies, and you now watch CBS' Two and a Half Men (Mondays at 9 pm/ET), not many a week goes by where a line delivery or physical flourish from Holland Taylor doesn’t harken back to the days of Kip, Henry, and the Livingston, Gentry and Mishkin ad agency. Taylor's Ruth Dunbar was a role that would pave the way for many more women to be reckoned with. TVGuide.com welcomed the chance to take a walk down memory lane with Taylor, dropping such names along the way as Hanks, Clooney, Pfeiffer and Sheen. TVGuide.com: Do you know what I have on my desk right here?Holland Taylor: What? TVGuide.com: The just-released Season 1 DVD set for Bosom Buddies.Taylor: [S read more

Switching (Laugh) Tracks on Monday Night

Get on a plane to start the holiday early (in the weirdly warm Ohio River valley) and look what happens. CBS pulls a switcheroo with its Monday comedies. On paper, it looks like more canny scheduling for a network that is solid (if uninspired) nearly every night of the week. CBS’s current two-hour comedy block of traditional-looking (though often edgier than you’d expect for mainstream) sitcoms may lack the distinctive brilliance you can find in the best of NBC’s Thursday comedies, but they’re all watchable and at times very enjoyable. How I Met Your Mother has sharpened its game in its second season, the new The Class is working through its growing pains (perhaps not quickly enough to ensure renewal), Two and a Half Men is as bawdy as ever (and is at its best whenever Conchata Farrell and Holland Taylor are around), and The New Adventures of Old Christine has become one of the season’s more delightful surprises, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus a hoot as she bumbles... read more
