Sandy's Tree Dome has fleas; Patrick is wracked with guilt over unwittingly stealing a doughnut from SpongeBob; a plate refuses to come clean for SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab.
SpongeBob makes up a story to explain his black eye, but his fictitious villain turns out to be real, and he isn't happy about the tale. Later, SpongeBob battles the brainwashed Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, who are under Plankton's control.
SpongeBob and Patrick unintentionally infuriate the Flying Dutchman, so he turns them into ghosts; SpongeBob shares a locker with Squidward.
Squidward is reluctant to visit SpongeBob, so SpongeBob tries to make him more comfortable by decorating his house like Squidward's; SpongeBob buys round pants because that's all that's available at the store, and his new look leaves him unrecognizable.
Nate and his crew take aim at a morally bankrupt debt collector scamming innocent taxpayers. Yet the dream team's scheme turns perilous when they discover their target is also a domestic terrorist backed by a gun-toting militia.
