No charges will be filed against singer/onetime America's Got Talent judge Brandy, who almost exactly a year ago was involved in a car crash that left Awatef Aboudihaj, a 38-year-old married mother of one, dead. In a statement to TV's Extra, press deputy Frank Mateljan says, "After conducting a thorough investigation, which included consulting with some of the top accident reconstruction experts in the country, [Los Angeles] city prosecutors concluded that there was insufficient evidence from which a jury could find Ms. Norwood guilty... beyond a reasonable doubt."Though Brandy at one time was possibly facing a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charge, recent reports have suggested that she did not cause the accident but rather was a victim of a pileup when Aboudihaj's car struck the vehicle in front of her, before Brandy made any contact.

The family of a woman who died two years ago is suing Michael Jackson and the Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, California, claiming that a gravely ill Manuela Gomez Ruiz was moved from the trauma unit when Jacko arrived with flu symptoms, and died shortly thereafter. The hospital calls the suit "frivolous".... A second wrongful-death lawsuit has been filed this time by the deceased's sons against Brandy, stemming from the fatal car crash the singer was involved in last December, says People.... Nicole Richie on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge stemming from her Dec. 11 arrest. A pretrial conference is set for Apr. 2.

The California Highway Patrol recommended on Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, for her involvement in an accident that killed a woman motorist, the Associated Press reports. Currently awaiting review by the city attorney's office, the charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. On Dec. 30, 2006, on Interstate 405, Brandy's Land Rover struck a Honda, which then hit another car, slid into the center divider and was hit by a fourth car. The driver of the Honda died later of blunt-force injuries.

In an as-yet-untitled WB comedy penned by Girlfriends creator Mara Brock Akil, Brandy will play a tried-and-true New Yorker who relocates to Los Angeles to take a job as — get this — an entertainment news editor.
