How to Promote Your Blog

So you’ve written or want to write a blog on TVGuide.com? Great! Now, let us help you spread the word about your blog – both within the TV Guide Community and beyond it. How? Simply follow these free and easy steps.
Promote your Blog on the Web
  1. Incorporate keywords in your copy.
Keywords are the words or phrases people think of when they search on the Web, and they help search engines like Google find your page.

When you’re writing your blog, place keywords in your blog’s Subject, as well as in the Post area.

As an example, the blog below contains two primary keywords ( Studio 60 and Aaron Sorkin), two keyword variations (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Sorkin), as well as two secondary keywords (West Wing and SportsNite). You can see that both primary keywords are in the Subject, and the secondary keywords and keyword variations are in the Post.

You’ll often be surprised at the keywords people use when they search – which is why keyword research often pays off. Overture offers a a free keyword research tool (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/) that can help identify the primary and secondary keywords you can use to drive more traffic to your blog.

Finally, as you’re strategically incorporating keywords into your blog, make sure not to engage in spam. This includes indiscriminately stuffing your post with keywords.

For more information about keyword research, read this article: http://websearch.about.com/od/keywordsandphrase1/a/selectkeyword.htm
  2. Build a link network. This includes:
    1. Friends, family and co-workers
If people you know run blogs or own Web sites, ask them to link directly to your blog.
    2. Fan sites
If your blog is dedicated to a specific show or celebrity or has a distinct theme, search for similar sites on the Web and ask them link to your blog.
    3. External links
When appropriate, add external links in your blog to sites that are relevant to the topic and will be interesting to your users. For example, if you’re blogging about Grey’s Anatomy, you may want to including a link to the Grey’s Anatomy official fan site.
