BBC'S BIG PLAN

BBC is in talks with Britain's government about starting an Arabic TV news channel to rival Al-Jazeera. Featuring news, talk shows and documentaries, the channel would broadcast across the Middle East, but also be accessible to viewers in the UK and Europe. BBC's plan follows the recent launch of Al-Hurra, which is funded by the U.S. government. read more

LIFE AND DEATH

Nicole Richie's fledgling acting career is officially at death's door. As reported in the current issue of TV Guide magazine (on sale now), the Simple Life diva recently filmed an episode of HBO's Six Feet Under to air Sept. 12. She'll play a celebrity who attends Claire's first art show and ends up purchasing one of her paintings. Sounds like she'll be playing herself, right? "They never say it's Nicole Richie," says her rep. "They never really call her by name." INDEPENDENT WOMEN NO MORE

Beyonce will get back to her roots this fall when Destiny's Child reunites for their first performance in nearly two years. "We are really looking forward to getting back onstage and performing together as a group," says the bootylicious solo star. Beyonce and her bandmates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland will appear on ABC's Pepsi Play for a Billion game show on Sept. 12. read more

UNHOLY MATRIMONY

Oops! Britney Spears did it again. Less than six months after annulling her 55-hour marriage to childhood friend Jason Alexander, the pop tart's gotten engaged. This time, the lucky fiancé is her 26-year-old dancer-boyfriend Kevin Federline. "I can confirm that yes, she is engaged," Brit's Jive Records rep, Sonia Muckle, told People. No word yet on the couple's wedding date. Oh, but don't forget Federline shares a 2-year-old daughter with ex-Moesha co-star Shar Jackson, who's also expecting his second child in July. So perhaps if they hold the ceremony till after his baby's birth, Kev's whole family can sit on the groom's side! read more

As hinted in the season finale of Judging Amy, Dan Futterman will return to the show as a regular this fall. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Futterman will be reprising his role as Amy Brenneman's brother. The actor, who left the CBS series after Season 2 for personal reasons, made a guest appearance in May foreshadowing his comeback. read more

Ashley Olsen has cancelled her trip Down Under for next week's Australian premiere of New York Minute. Understandably, she wants to stick close by twin sister Mary-Kate, who's reportedly undergoing treatment for an eating disorder. "Ashley has decided to be with her family at this time," says Robert Thorne, CEO of the twins' Dualstar Entertainment Group. "While it is unfortunate that plans have been canceled, Mary-Kate and Ashley appreciate everyone's support and understanding." read more

TROUBLE

DMX was arrested on charges that he and another man tried to steal a car in New York's Kennedy Airport parking lot on Thursday night. Authorities believe the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, may have identified himself as a federal agent. He is charged with attempted robbery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief. read more
