Whitney Houston's mother has expressed that the Houston family is not supporting Lifetime's upcoming biopic about the late singer, which stars Yaya DaCosta.

Currently titled Whitney Houston, the movie will focus on the relationship between Whitney and her ex-husband Bobby Brown from the time they met through the dissolution of their tumultuous marriage.

"Lifetime has chosen to go ahead with the movie about Whitney in spite of my family's objections," Cissy Houston said in a statement to ETOnline.com. "No one connected with this movie knew Whitney or anything about her relationship with Bobby. In the two years since Whitney's death, many people have stepped forward to speak about their close relationship with her. I find it difficult to believe people who knew and supposedly loved her would participate in a movie about her done by folks who didn't know her. We are exhausted by the continuing misinformation and comments offered by people who did not know her. Please, please let her rest."

Angela Bassett to direct Whitney Houston movie for Lifetime

An America's Next Top Modelalum, DaCosta has appeared on Ugly Betty, All My Childrenand House, as well as Lee Daniels' The Butler. (Watch DaCosta as the daughter of Wilhelmina Slater on Ugly Betty here.)

Whitney Houson is set to premiere in 2015, only three years after the singer was found dead in her hotel bathtub at age 48 due to an accidental drowning. Oscar nominee Angela Bassett, who starred opposite Houston in 1995's Waiting to Exhale, will direct the film.
