True Detective has fans scratching their heads, and it's not due to one of Rust Cohle's rambling existential speeches.

After casting comedy stars Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams in key roles for the upcoming second season, the acclaimed anthology series has also added '80s pop icon and General Hospital alum Rick Springfield. No, really.

Best performances of the year

Springfield revealed his involvement Thursday on Twitter.

Before rising to fame on the wings of his beloved 1981 hit "Jessie's Girl," Springfield was an actor with credits including The Six Million Dollar Man, The Rockford Files, Battlestar Galactica, Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk, just to name a few. In recent years, he has recurred on Californication in addition to guest appearances on Hawaii Five-0, Drop Dead Diva and Hot in Cleveland.

No premiere date has been set for True Detective Season 2 so get out all your "Jessie's Girl" jokes now before they turn stale.

What do you think of Springfield's casting?
