Another season premiere, another body in Merlotte's parking lot. And just like last time, the third season begins mere moments after the second ended, with Eggs shot in the head, Tara inconsolably hysterical and Andy covering for a deadeye Jason. Of course, what everyone wants to know, like Sookie, is what happened to Bill, but there are other mysteries to tide us over in the meantime, including Sam's journey to find his birth family and a crisis in the vampire community over an uptick in the abuse of V. — Joe Friedrich
Tony Awards

Musicals Fela! and La Cage aux Folles should each win some serious hardware tonight, as they lead all shows with 11 nominations apiece. The revival of Fences, with Denzel Washington, is close behind with 10 nods. Regardless of who walks home with statuettes, Broadway lovers will be the real winners with a telecast that includes performances from all of the nominated musicals (American Idiot; Fela!; Memphis; Million Dollar Quartet) and musical revivals (La Cage aux Folles; A Little Night Music; Ragtime). In addition, Green Day and Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Lea Michele will take to the stage. Sean Hayes is the host. — Tim Holland
Breaking Bad

Could the third-season finale shock like the previous season's when a distraught and distracted air-traffic controller allowed two planes to collide midair and rain down debris and body parts on the Albuquerque area? OK, this season ender doesn't contain the catastrophic drama of the last one, but it is a taut and riveting cliffhanger. Walt literally rode to the rescue and saved Jesse's life in last week's episode, and now the tables are turned and Jesse must find a way to keep his meth-cooking partner from being introduced to his maker. — Ray Stackhouse

This time around, the contest moves back to New York as 12 new designers compete for the title. Goalkeeping has always been a German strength, but top netminder Robert Enke's suicide last fall left the team shaken. A May injury to midfielder Michael Ballack also weakens the squad, but a veteran defense led by Per Mertesacker aims to steer away any scoring threats by Tim Cahill and the Aussies, who made their first knockout round in 2006. The match takes place in a new stadium in Durban that features an awe-inspiring arch. — Roger Leister
