The Mad About You Revival Finally Has a Home (Even If It's a Weird Home)

If you've gotten a painful case of whiplash over the will-they-or-won't-they buzz surrounding the Mad About You revival, we're right there with you. But this time, it looks like the Buchmans are finally coming back to the small screen.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mad About You is set to return for a limited-series revival, which will air on Charter Communications' nascent Spectrum Originals platform. Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt are expected to return to their roles as Paul and Jamie, respectively.

The two issued a joint statement about the project, saying, "We are so excited to finally be doing this and thrilled to have Peter Tolan as our fearless captain. We promise you the same funny and heartwarming show -- as soon as we can remember what's funny about being older. It's going to be great!"

While Tolan will serve as showrunner, Hunt will step behind the lens to direct the first new episode, which is expected to debut later this year. Hunt previously directed five episodes of the series, including its two-part finale.

The original sitcom aired for seven seasons on NBC, running from 1992-1999. Talk of a Mad About You reboot first emerged back in 2017, when it was reported that Sony wanted in on the '90s sitcom revival game and planned to bring the show's original co-creators, Reiser and Danny Jacobson, back on as showrunners. In mid-2018, the process seemed to be picking up steam, as Reiser and Hunt had reportedly signed a deal to reprise their roles. Then, the issue was where to bring the new Mad About You. Later that same year, Reiser threw cold water on fans' anticipation for the show by saying that it was in executive limbo and probably wouldn't happen after all.

Now, it looks like the revival has finally found a home -- albeit an unexpected one -- and can at last make up for that bonkers finale. Hopefully.
