It looks like one of the biggest mysteries on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be resolved in the early part of Season 2.

Kyle MacLachlan has been tapped to guest-star on the ABC series as the father of Skye (Chloe Bennet), TVLine reports. Apparently MacLachlan's character was the person Raina (Ruth Negga) was addressing when she handed him the photograph at the end of Season 1 and announced that she had located his daughter.

What we know about Skye's parentage so far is that she was taken from her small Chinese village by S.H.I.E.L.D. as a baby, after her parents butchered the residents of the village. It's unclear whether MacLachlan will play her birth father or her adoptive father after she wound up at an orphanage.

MacLachlan will make his first appearance in the early part of Season 2, according to TVLine. His previous credits include Twin PeaksSex and the City and Desperate Housewives.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. kicks off its sophomore season on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
