Academy Award-winning composer John Barry died in New York, TheWrap reports. He was 77.

Barry, who created scores for 11 of the James Bond films, including From Russia with Love, You Only Live Twice, and The Man with the Golden Gun. His final Bond film was 1987's The Living Daylights.

The English-born composer also won Oscars for his work on Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa, The Lion in Winter and Born Free.

Barry started out arranging music for jazz musicians before forming his own band: The John Barry Seven. The group's hit songs included "Walk Don't Run," in addition to music featured on BBC's Drumbeat.

Barry is survived by Laurie, his wife of 33 years, four children and five grandchildren.
