Game Show Host Geoff Edwards Dies at 83

Game show host Geoff Edwards, who emceed such shows as Jackpot! and Treasure Hunt, has died, The Associated Press reports. He was 83.

Edwards died Wednesday at St. John's hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., of complications from pneumonia.

Born in Westfield, N.J., Edwards began his broadcast career working for a radio station in Albany, N.Y., while he was in college. In the late 1950s, he moved to California and landed a job hosting a news radio show in San Diego.

He also dabbled in acting, and had guest roles on shows including I Dream of Jeannie,Diff'rent Strokes and The Bobby Darin Show.

In 1973, Edwards got his first game show hosting job on Jack Barry's Hollywood's Talking. He went on to host several game shows in the 1970s and '80s, including Jackpot!, two incarnations of Treasure Hunt and Shoot for the Stars. He was known for his signature phrase, "Right you are!"

Edwards is survived by his wife, two stepsons, an ex-wife, three children and nine grandchildren.
