Chelsea Handler has made no secret about her desire to leave E! and now the network has made it official.

Chelsea Lately will wrap its seven-year run with a live series finale on Aug. 26, the network announced Wednesday. The finale will cap a month-long celebration that will include special episodes and surprise guests.

The most charisma-free actors

"We are very proud of Chelsea Lately's long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late-night television," E! President Suzanne Kolb said in a statement.  "Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the Chelsea Lately team for making this show so special for seven years."

Added Handler: "I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years. I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I'm glad I went."

Returning summer shows: Where we left off

Over the years, Chelsea Lately has spawned two other E! programs: After Lately, chronicling the behind-the-scenes antics at Chelsea Lately, and Hello Ross, which is currently in the middle of its second season.

Handler's manager first revealed in March that the stand-up comedian and best-selling author planned to leave E! at the end of her current contract, which expires this fall. Not long after, Handler tweeted a photo of a CBS handbook in her lap. However, she most recently told  Ellen DeGeneres, "I would never be on a regular network. ... I would never do that to my fans or to myself or to the network."

Chelsea Lately airs weeknights at 11/10c on E! Will you miss the show? Where do you want to see Handler end up?
