White Water Summer Reviews

Alan (Sean Astin), a city kid with an aversion to the strenuous life, is forced by his parents to go on a three-week camping trip. Joining him on the trip is Vic (Kevin Bacon), a gung-ho type who takes it as his personal duty to teach Alan self-confidence. As the trip commences, Alan repeatedly makes mistakes that earn him the contempt of the other campers. Vic becomes rougher and rougher on him as Alan's resolve not to follow stiffens. The two are headed for a confrontation. WHITE WATER SUMMER was originally titled RITES OF SUMMER, but apparently it never saw a theatrical release under any name. Little wonder, since it plays no better than a bad after-school special. None of the characters is the least bit sympathetic. Just what audience the filmmakers were aiming at is a mystery, though the movie may have therapeutic value as an anaesthetic.
