The Time Travelers Reviews

The old H.G. Wells theme of time travel receives pretty good treatment here. The plot concerns a group of 1960s scientists who stumble 107 years into the future when Franken falls into a time portal. The researching doctor, Foster, and two of his students try to rescue him, but they too are transported to a time when nuclear war has almost totally destrnoyed the human race. The few survivors live underground as they desperately try to construct a spaceship that can take them to a place where they can start a new civilization. Offshoots of the human race, who have mutated into horrible creatures, continually attack their human counterparts and destroy the ship. Foster and company then try to retreat to the year 1964, but they encounter a trap that locks them in a time circle forever. Although the themes are basically reworkings of similar ones, a certain energy comes through in the picture. The inexpensive special effects are really quite creative. Remade in 1967 as JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF TIME.
