The First Time Reviews

Charlie (Tim Choate) finds college tough going when he can't score with the girl of his dreams and his aspirations of becoming a filmmaker are challenged by Professor Goldfarb (Wallace Shawn), an esoteric film teacher. Charlie's black roommate, Ron (Raymond Patterson), tries to teach him his rap on women, but it doesn't fit. Professor Rand of the psychology department (Marshall Efron) counsels the young man and involves him in an unusual research project. Director Loventhal and producer Irvin were assistants on Brian De Palma's HOME MOVIES, and De Palma was creative consultant on this picture. The humor here becomes downright silly at times.
