Police Academy Reviews

This movie was the first entry in a series that would spawn five sequels before the decade's end. In it, a newly elected mayor decides police academy entry requirements are too rigid, and he forces the academy to accept nearly anyone who applies. Among the new recruits are parking lot attendant Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg); the girl of his dreams, Karen Thompson (Kim Cattrall); florist Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith); and Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow), who has the uncanny ability to imitate virtually any sound. Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes) is the gentle yet rather feeble-minded leader of the academy, and Lieutenant Harris (G.W. Bailey) is his scheming assistant. Naturally, the recruits engage in a variety of zany antics. It all plays like a made-for-TV film with some nudity and scatological humor thrown in, but it made a bunch of money.
