Little Miss Marker Reviews

This is another stale version of the oft-remade 1934 Shirley Temple vehicle, this time featuring Sara Stimson in Curly Top's role as the little tyke who is left in the care of stodgy bookie Sorrowful Jones (Walter Matthau) as a down payment for one of her father's bets. Jones gets into some life-threatening situations by virtue of his involvement with the sleazy Blackie (Tony Curtis), who is trying to open a casino in the mansion owned by Amanda (Julie Andrews). This was the directorial debut of screenwriter Walter Bernstein. Other versions of the same story include 1949's SORROWFUL JONES and 1963's 40 POUNDS OF TROUBLE, which starred Curtis.
