• Began acting at age 10 in children's productions at the Grand Theatre in London, Ontario
• Mother hosted a TV show in London, Ontario, called At Home with Hope Garber
• Dropped out of high school at 16 and moved to Toronto to pursue a performing career
• In the late 1960s, formed a band called the Sugar Shoppe, with Peter Mann, Lee Harris and pianist Laurie Hood; made appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show
• First acting break came in a 1972 Toronto stage production of Godspell, which also starred Martin Short, Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy and Paul Shaffer
• Officiated the 2005 wedding of friend and Alias costar Jennifer Garner to Ben Affleck
• His photo was mistakenly used by the Radio and Television of Ireland (RTÉ) reporting a 2010 opinion poll of right-leaning Irish politician Enda Kenny
