Left Canada at age 16 to move to New York City, where she enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (and became one of its youngest graduates ever)
Made her professional stage debut in a Canadian production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Debuted in her first film, Rosebud, in 1975 opposite Peter O'Toole and Richard Attenborough
Nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award in 2002 for her role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City
Wrote several books on sex, including Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm (coauthored with ex-husband Mark Levinson) and Sexual Intelligence
