Premise

Keith Michell's Emmy-winning performance highlights this six-part historical drama tracing the monarch's half-dozen marriages and attempts to secure a male heir. The BBC import first ran in the U.S. on CBS in the summer of 1971, and was reshown on PBS's `Masterpiece Theatre' the following year with about 10 minutes of new footage in each episode. Through the course of six chapters, Henry ages from a scant 18, when he becomes king, to a dissipated, dying man of 56.
