Former television actress Kristy McNichol has opened up about why she left show business. During a recent reunion for the hit '70s series Love Boat, McNichol, who also starred on the '80s sitcom Empty Nest but vanished from the spotlight in part because she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, told People she also left because she wanted to "see what else was out there." TV shows we want to reunite "I was on the big stage between ages 8 and 30," she added. "I left show business for a variety of reasons, but a big one was my interest in learning what else there is in life ... This phase of my life is so good. My home life is happy and serene. I love singing. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the world. One of my favorite stops is Hawaii. I like everything about it and may eventually move there part-time."
Oprah: Where Are They Now? will kick off its new season with a Love Boat reunion on Sunday. Original cast members Ted Lange, Cynthia Lauren Tewes and Jill Whelan will meet up to reminisce about their time on The Pacific Princess.
Actress Joan Lorring, who was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1946 for her role in The Corn is Green, died Friday in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., The Associated Press reports. She was 88, and a cause of death was not disclosed.
Mary Grace Canfield, who played carpenter Ralph Monroe on Green Acres, died Saturday of lung cancer at a hospice in Santa Barbara, Calif., her daughter told the Los Angeles Times.
