As the second season of this political drama unfolds, Harrison (Columbus Short) and Abby (Darby Stanchfield) learn who Quinn (Katie Lowes) really is, and Quinn begins to piece together the roles that Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Huck (Guillermo Diaz) played in her obtaining a new identity. Meanwhile, as Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Mellie (Bellamy Young) grow further apart, Fitz gets jealous when Olivia revisits her romance with Senator Davis (Norm Lewis), her ex-fiancé. Cyrus (Jeff Perry) also faces relationship problems when his husband, James (Dan Bucatinsky), returns to work as a journalist and gets a lead from David (Joshua Malina) about a story involving possible voter tampering in the last presidential election. A major mid-season shooting lands one main character in the hospital and another in police custody. Arriving on the scene in the second half of the season is Capt. Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), a man with a past linked to Fitz and a possible future linked to Olivia.
