Tracing aerial surveillance, from the U-2 “spy planes” of the 1950s and '60s to a tiny unmanned aerial vehicle that will “fly like a fly,” says narrator Will Lyman. Among the larger UAVs surveyed are the Predator, which earned its stripes as a surveillance drone in Afghanistan; and Global Hawk, a member of the next generation of UAVs, which can reach heights of 65,000 feet and fly itself. The future of UAVs looks promising, but John Pike of warns: “We happen to be several years and several billion dollars from fulfilling that promise.”
