World-class surfers defy a condition-black warning to take advantage of extraordinary oceanic conditions creating 40-foot waves in Oahu, Hawaii, on January 28, 1998. To get the necessary speed, partners on jet skis tow the surfers, who discuss their relationships with the ocean, the sport and their sense of history about the day.
