The Beatles made their debut on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, a few weeks before this episode was written and taped, making Mathis's performances even more of interest.
Regulars Mitzi McCall & Charlie Brill continue to provide some of the better comedy bits in the show. John Raitt's baritone voice and Charlie Byrd's blend of classical, bossa and jazz fill out the musical landscape of the episode.
