Gerald is unable to make an interview at an elite preschool he's trying to get Edie into, so Jimmy steps in, but after meeting the admissions official, he accidentally triggers a lie that threatens to get out of hand.
After missing her first birthday, Jimmy throws 2-year-old Edie a birthday bash at his restaurant to make amends, but Sara's brother shows up and confronts him about abandoning his ex and leaving her to raise Gerald.
As Jimmy tries to adapt to his new family situation, Gerald decides to surprise everyone with their first group trip to the beach, which all, except Jimmy, look forward to. Jimmy, however, bags the outing in favor of a glamorous nearby pool party and drags along Gerald, leaving Vanessa and Sara behind.
