Also: the Irish potato famine of the 1840s and its relationship to sectarian violence during the 20th century; Pakistan's suppression of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) in the early 1970s; Indonesia's suppression of East Timor (1976-99); and warfare between leftist insurgents and U.S.-backed dictators in Central America during the 1980s.
