The First Umbrella Academy Trailer Teases a Stylish End to the World

Gerard Way's colorful characters come to life

The first teaser trailer for Netflix's adaptation of Gerard Way's The Umbrella Academy series is here, and yes, it looks just as bonkers as its literary basis.

The show centers on a group of now-grown adoptees of a billionaire industrialist who scooped them up and cultivated their individual superpowers at his own special academy after they were spontaneously born to non-expectant mothers in 1989. These talented, albeit weird, kids grow up and away from each other, but when their father is mysteriously killed, they team up to investigate -- and to try and stave off the looming apocalypse, of course. (What superhero narrative would be complete without the very fate of the world at stake, these days?)

The show features Ellen Page as Vanya, aka the White Violin; Tom Hopper as Luther, aka Spaceboy; Robert Sheehan as Klaus, aka Séance; Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, aka Rumor; David Castañeda as Diego, aka Kraken; and Aidan Gallagher as Number Five. Mary J. Blige and Cameron Britton also star.

The Umbrella Academy premieres Friday, Feb. 15 on Netflix.
