TRUE D SEASON 3, BABY
True Detective's redemption tour starts this winter, HBO announced on Thursday. The Mahershala Ali-starring third season will premiere Sunday, Jan. 13.
HBO is hoping Season 3 will be a return to form after a poorly-received second season in 2015. The anthology series premiered back in 2014 with an instant classic season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson that kickstarted the career of director Cary Joji Fukunaga and made everyone want to do very long, uninterrupted takes. Season 3 will move the action to the Ozark region of Arkansas and Oscar winner Ali will play a detective who's haunted by a case from his past as the story unfolds over three timelines. The cast also features Carmen Ejogo, Stephen Dorff, and Scoot McNairy. Creator Nic Pizzolatto wrote all eight episodes, except for one co-written with Deadwood's David Milch.
The announcement came with some photos of Ali looking very late '70s cool.
