The nation's box office remained virtually unchanged from the previous weekend, with National Treasure, Christmas with the Kranks, The Polar Express, The Incredibles and SpongeBob SquarePants securing the top five slots. Elsewhere, bad word of mouth sank Oliver Stone's Alexander the Abysmal (No. 7 with $4.7 million) in its second weekend, while Mike Nichols' dark sex drama Closer (No. 6 with $7.7 million) got off to a solid start on just 476 screens.
