College Basketball
7/6c ESPN
Just a few hilly miles from Heinz Field, beyond the Penguins' new arena, Pittsburgh sports fans have yet another shrine to excellence in the Petersen Events Center. "The Pete" is where the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball squad has won 51 times in its last 52 games heading into tonight's Big Monday matchup with Notre Dame, which beat Jamie Dixon's Panthers twice late last season outside of the Steel City, including a Big East tourney win. Both teams are flush with upperclassmen and potent perimeter shooters, led by Ben Hansbrough and Ashton Gibbs. — Roger Leister
Chuck
8/7c NBC
Chuck has pluck, but does he have luck? He didn't have much last week. With engagement ring ready to go, he was about to pop the big question to Sarah when she was abruptly whisked away on an undercover mission. The big proposal will have to wait for our lord of the ring, as Sarah goes deep into the dark shadows and assists Mary Bartowski (Linda Hamilton) in a bid to finally crush monumental baddie Alexei Volkoff (Timothy Dalton). On the domestic front, Ellie and Awesome bicker over baby names. — Dean Maurer

Gossip Girl9/8c CW When we last left the Gossip Girl crew in early December, there was much family discord, and Lily was at the root of it. Neither Serena nor Chuck has forgiven her yet — instead, they're now teaming up to oppose her. Chuck is also dealing with some new players in his orbit: Bart's former associate Russell Thorpe (Michael Boatman) and Russell's daughter, Raina. Meanwhile, Nate has family troubles of his own: The Captain is newly paroled, and he's enjoying his freedom a little too much. — Jennifer SankowskiCake Boss: Next Great Baker9/8c TLC Finalists Megan, Dana and Corina have survived eight grueling weeks of competition, but their biggest challenge still lies ahead of them in the Season 1 finale, where they'll be tasked with filling the display cases at Carlo's Bakery, competing to see who can sell the most sweets. They'll have to pull an all-nighter in order to pull off 400 cookies, 200 pastries, 20 cakes and 20 pies, all while working on an elaborate theme cake for a very special client. In the end, Buddy Valastro will crown the winner, who will (cake)walk away with a sweet $50,000. — Karen Kelty

RuPaul's Drag Race9/8c LogoChristmas was a month ago but RuPaul just won't let go: He's decking the halls in holiday glitter as Season 3 opens with the contestants posing for Christmas cards — on a trampoline. But first there's a casting special, which introduces us to the new batch of queens. There's also a new regular judge this year: Ru's onetime VH1 cohost, Michelle Visage, joining Santino Rice. And tonight's guest judges are Vanessa Williams, photographer Mike Ruiz and Bruce Vilanch — as that jolly and round guy in the red suit ("I've upsized," he says with a twinkle in his eye). — Paul DroeschAmerican Experience9/8c PBS Building the Panama Canal, the 50-mile link between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, was no small feat. This look back at its 1904-14 construction, which cost $375 million and took the lives of 5609 workers (from both accidents and disease), features archival footage, photos and the recollections of workers. — Jeff Gemmill
